Last night at the Roseland Portland’s very own Lifesavas very heavily rocked the house. In fact it was a night of all around great hip-hop with Andre Nickatina and Jmack. Anyway, back to the Lifesavas. Their brand new CD Gutterfly drops April 21st on Quannum Records. Check out this cut, Dead Ones featuring Fishbone, click play below.

El Perro del Mar was founded in the end of 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sole member of El Perro del Mar, Sarah, initially started out as an mp3/cdr-artist and released her first songs on the Swedish label Hybris. In November 2004 El Perro del Mar released the three-track EP ‘What’s New? El perro del mar’ which included the songs ‘This Loneliness, ‘It’s all good’ and ‘I can’t talk about it’. She also worked together with Swedish Jens Lekman and together they released a split vinyl single on which Sarah contributed with the song ‘Shake it off’. In Spring 2005 the previously but somewhat oddly released tunes were collected and turned into the album ‘Look! It’s El Perro del Mar’.

Midlake hail from Denton, TX which, according to the UK newspaper The Guardian, is a god-forsaken place. You can read all about it here. And here’s an excerpt from that piece that describes Midlake’s sound - “…one of those records you feel like you’ve known for ever; a dreamy concoction of Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and The Yardbirds, mixing together 1970s MOR, harmonies dripping with honey, and lyrics about young brides, stonecutters and mountaineers. It’s music that seems to have emerged fully formed from another time and another place.”
