I tracked down Blitzen Trapper and the idea was to interview them. What actually ensued could, I suppose, be called an interview…these guys are hilarious and a breath of fresh air in the music scene. In this video you will hear the boys talk about Sasquatch, Yakima, the Blitzen Bat Cave, The Hold Steady and a Seattle-based record label. Then they discuss their superpowers, how the length of a tour should be determined by how long one’s beard becomes and how they had to sell their tambourine player on the way to SXSW. Finally they discuss Holocene’s diseased, cancerous lung…you’ll have to watch and listen…oh and yes, they wrestle me to the ground….click the image to play. Postscript: It’s official they signed to Sub Pop - Article on this here.

The folks over at the Pickathon festival have come up with their own genre called “Indie-Roots” to describe the type of music featured at this year’s event. They define Indie-Roots as “the subjective and diverse intersections of Indie, Rock, Singer Songwriter, and a variety of traditional music styles (i.e. Bluegrass, Blues, Folk, Country, Swing, etc.)” However you describe it the lineup is is truly impressive with artists such as The Avett Brothers, Erin McKeown, The Gourds and Alela Diane. The festival also has an impressive web site with loads of festival information, video and music.
