Fans of Portland’s best indie band, Menomena, who happen to live in Mexico City can see them perform at La Terraza del Zocalo on Aug 15. For the rest of us we can head up to see them at Bumbershoot or just rush out and grab the Friend And Foe vinyl available for pre-orders 01 Aug 2007. According to their record company’s web site:

Rock’n Roll Hall of Famer Patti Smith will make an appearance at the Bite of Oregon Sunday, August 12th from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It seems as though Patti has a soft spot for Portland as she has made special appearances here before. She also claims to be a big fan of hometown favs The Decemberists. Check out the entertainment link for all the music listings.

Mark Olson was a founding member of The Jayhawks, the seminal band to emerge out of–or more accurately, spearhead–the alt-country scene. He left the Jayhawks in 1996, after the release of the band’s biggest-selling album, Tomorrow The Green Grass, but continued to record music with his new band, The Creekdippers, at his new home in the California desert. Mark recently finished recording his first true solo album, The Salvation Blues, with producer Ben Vaughn. A deeply personal album, Mark’s voice and poetic lyrics are complemented by Vaughn’s gorgeous musical backdrops featuring the work of some of LA’s best studio musicians. The album also features the long-awaited reunion with his former Jayhawks bandmate and writing partner, Gary Louris, on three songs.
