Justice, live video from Holocene Portland 10/11

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Here’s a clip of Justice tearing it up at Holocene last night. These guys don’t DJ so much as fire off sharp, staccato cut ups interspersed with power drill bursts of synth bass lines all designed to make you bounce off the walls, and the crowd at Holocene did just that.

Nick Lowe tonight

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Does anyone remember that 1979 concert film called Rock for Kampuchea? Somewhere in the middle of that movie there was a performance by a band called Rockpile which, for the film, featured guest vocalist Robert Plant backed by the regular lineup of Dave Edmunds on Guitar, Dire Straits drummer Terry Williams and Nick Lowe on bass. It was a highlight of the movie and my first introduction to Nick Lowe. After that I think I saw the video for Cruel to Be Kind and I’ve been a fan ever since. Of course Nick has several other hits, was in another great band called Little Village and has produced countless records. He’ll be in Portland tonight performing at the Aladdin theater.
