“Emerson Valentine Lyon is a hip-hop inspired artist, raised in classically trained home, by the Portland, OR indie-rock scene. While Lyon’s delivery is taken from the world of hip-hop, his production and lyrics show a diversity of influence from soul, folk, rock, and electronic music. His ability to sample obscure songs, modify electronic synths, and use live instrumentation has frequently been compared him to a Beck with the lyrical sensibility of a Kanye West.

Lyon’s live performances are enriched with a full sound, rarely found in hip-hop, thanks to his collaboration with a crew of rotating band members, which includes Caws Pobi of The Taste.

Whether it is collaborating via the internet with his elder partner Caws Pobi on their “Thuggage” album, which mixes old school sampling with live instrumentation, or employing the vocal talents of local soul singers on electronic infused hip-hop music, Emerson’s challenging music is an amalgamation of influence rarely seen by artists in the new millennium.”
