the dandy warhols launch their own label

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

In an interview yesterday in Billboard The Dandy Warhols say they have partnered with World’s Fair Group to launch their own label, Beat the World. A new album is expected out this year. The group was previously signed to Capitol, on which it released four studio albums. World’s Fair is basically a one-stop shop for musicians and artists whose relationships with the major record labels has soured. World’s Fair manufactures, distributes and promotes just like a label all under one roof. The Dandies have not said how they will release their next album nor if they will choose to go the free route like their former label mates Radiohead, or if they’ll deliver it as part of a tiered pricing system as NIN just did with great success apparently.

easter egg, another fine portland discovery

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Ok, so when Nilina comes by the shop we get to talking because Nilina is full of life and crackles with enthusiasm. She loved the Nemo Design space so much she’s coming back. Anyway, we sat down and shared musical notes..I was happy to push Dubstep and in particular Burial on to her. She came back with Easter Egg who is a Portland-based musician/DJ who’s MySpace site lists his ‘band members’ as -
“Me, being Nathan, my MacBook that I try to keep clean and white, a legit copy of Ableton Live that I barely know how to use, and the assistance of whoever I feel like sampling.” He’s hot on the heels of Girl Talk. He just got props from Ratatat for the remix he did of Cherry. [Nilina also turned me on to some cool Metronomy tracks, more on them later.]

“This guy is amazing. I’m calling it right now - he’s gonna blow Girl Talk out of the water.” - Headphone Magic
