Bring Hung-Far-Low Back!

September 11th, 2009

When the legendary hung-far-low sign in Chinatown suddenly disappeared, it was as if the neighborhood in which it was in had completely vanished along with it. Enter The Old Town Block Party which started raising money to resurrect the sign and bring this important area back to its true form. Tomorrow is a celebration of all things Portland—music, businesses, people and to revive the coolest sign this side of The Mississippi!

Be sure to check out special performances by The Fix DJs, M64, May Ling and Yacht!

September 10th, 2009

MusicFestNW Wristband Gang of Four Faux Hoax

If you live in Portland or you are heading here for the MusicFestNW music festival, the good folks at MusicFestNW have ponied up a free wristband [a $60 value!] for the Moose to give away to a lucky winner. The runner up will receive a copy of a limited edition Gang of Four remix 7″ vinyl that includes a Tommie Sunshine remix of At Home [He Feels Like a Tourist] and a Blood Brothers remix of [Love Like] Anthrax, as well as a 7″ Your Friends Will Carry You Home single from Faux Hoax which includes a coupon for extra digital tracks to download.

Here’s how to win - leave a comment in this post responding to the following question:

For the free wristband: Which band would you guess that I would most like to see during MusicFestNW?
For the two vinyl singles: Give me your list of the bands that I should not miss during MusicFestNW.

Here’s the list of bands on the MusicFestNW site.

Remember to include your email address as I will notify the winners by email. [Don't worry, we will never spam you.]

Update: 9/9/09 9:18PM I also have four MusicFestNW CD compilations to give away. I will randomly choose winners from the list of “bands I should see” submissions. Keep this going, I’m liking the guesses and the lists. Thanks for participating.

Dam, That Funk Sounds Good!

September 10th, 2009
DamFunk

Here we are 10 days into the month of September already and its evidently clear that September and Portland have a special thing for each other musically speaking. What with TBA festival making every night a hard to miss artistic engagement and with MFNW only days away, is there really anywhere else a passionate music head would like to be?

Tonight continues this fantastic trend with something a little different by way of boogie funk or better yet, the ambassador of boogie funk, Dam Funk! LA’s Damon Riddick is a gifted messenger of the funk—bridging thick snyth-y grooves with a bubbly analog attitude that even fellow soul connoisseurs such as Prince or George Clinton would knowingly approve.

Tonight, The Fixx presents DamFunk at The Someday Lounge—why not give yourself some funk love before that sound of rock really hits the PDX block!?!
